Military Antennas and Engineering Tower Services
Long Wave’s military Antenna and Engineering Tower services customers include the United States Navy (USN), the United States Air Force (USAF), the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Homeland Security. Long Wave has extensive experience installing monopole towers, self-supporting towers, generator pads, bollards, concrete masonry unit walls, and access roads at locations worldwide. These capabilities allow Long Wave to provide turn-key site development to customers within budget and on time.
We provide antenna maintenance for the entire Fixed Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS) at Navy facilities around the world. Long Wave is the In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) support contractor providing technical support to the Navy’s entire high-powered VLF/LF submarine broadcast transmitting system/equipment and associated antenna systems.
Long Wave’s current bonding capacity exceeds $10MM per project and $20MM in aggregate.
LF/VLF/HF COMMUNICATIONS
As the In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) support contractor to NIWC Pacific, Long Wave provides extensive engineering analysis, design, development, repairs and testing in support of the ashore Fixed Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS) antennas. These unique one-of-a-kind antennas range in height up to 1,400 feet and are located at 10 sites worldwide to provide one-way communication to United States Navy submarines operating below periscope depth. Our team has decades of technical expertise to rapidly provide engineering assessments, technical solutions, antenna site analysis, mission critical repairs, unique components and testing support.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
VLF STTR
In support of the Air Force Research Laboratory Long Wave performed a study under a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) contract. The focus of the study was a Very Low Frequency/Low Frequency (VLF/LF) electrically short antenna for a high-power airborne application.
Engineers designing transmitting antennas at long wavelengths have struggled for decades to make antennas compact, efficient, and broadband. These challenges are especially pronounced in the Very Low Frequency (VLF, 3-30 kHz) and Low Frequency (LF, 30-300 kHz) bands. For example, a half-wave dipole at 30 kHz would have to be 5 km long, six times larger than the tallest structure in the world.
Our approach involved a time-varying antenna which avoids the bandwidth and power limits of a classically designed antenna bound by the Chu-Harrington Limit. We assessed the scalability of the proposed antenna concept, using a combination of market and technology surveys, along with rigorous circuit, antenna, and electromagnetic modeling. The effort successfully demonstrated current a low-power demonstration prototype along with designs for a medium-power demonstration prototype.

CMRS
CMRS is a High Frequency ship-to-shore communications system that continuously monitors transmissions from communication buoys. This listening network provides global coverage from six strategically based receive sites that are monitored simultaneously by the U.S. Navy. Long Wave designed, developed, and engineered the functionality of the CMRS communications system to replace an aging legacy system. Our talented staff of engineers performed the production, integration, testing, installation, documentation, and life-cycle hardware, software, and cyber-security maintenance for all aspects of the system, from the receiver sites to the monitoring stations.
HEMP

Long Wave has developed a robust On-the-Job-Training Handbook for efficient shelter operations. Our experienced team leveraged over a decade of designing, developing, and delivering training for Navy Operators and Maintainers. The training design was tailored to the Lerner and took into consideration the individuals’ previous training and experience as well as site details to determine feasibility of training strategies and procedures.
